We have high expectations of all children, and we believe that their work here at Broadstone First School is of the highest possible standard.
Teacher assessments are part of the ongoing teaching process and occur throughout the year in a variety of formats. This information informs our teaching and enables us to ascertain your child’s attainment and progress. As part of this process some formative assessment procedures are used throughout the school.

Assessment
Children undergo assessment procedures during the first half term in Reception to assess their starting point and to enable us to measure progress through the school. The results will be shared with you at the first parents evening. The children undertake another assessment at the end of the Reception year called the Foundation Profile. These results will also be shared with you and passed on to your child’s class teacher the following year.
Standard Attainment Tests (SATs) are taken in Year 2 during the entire month of May. This is one means of measuring our school’s success is measured. The results will be reported to you with your child’s annual report in July. Our school’s results are available in the insert section of this prospectus.
Non statutory SATs occur in Year 3 and 4 during a specific week in May, usually the same week as Year 6 SATs in the Middle School. This information will be shared with you in the summer term.
Year 4 has National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) tests in the Autumn term along with all Year 4 pupils in the Borough. This information will be shared with you at the Autumn parents evening.
