Our Motto

At Broadstone First School we want our curriculum to be a rehearsal for life and nurture the skills that are explicit in our core values. We want our curriculum to develop individual talents and unknown potential and to challenge all learners to be better tomorrow than they were today.

Broadstone First School is situated in the centre of Broadstone village in the Borough of Poole LEA.

Broadstone First School was founded by Sir Ivor and Lady Cornelia Guest in 1872 and the first headmaster was Richard Musgrave. The building was used as a chapel of ease on Sundays until the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1887.

   

The number of children on roll increased and additions were made to the buildings in 1902, when a new room was built to accommodate 90 "infants"! By 1935 there were 236 children on the register, taught in five classrooms and two of the classes contained over 50 children. So, in 1936 a new, wooden classroom was built and was in use until 2002.

A new block of four classrooms was built in 1957 and in 1992, a new hall was built, together with office and staff accommodation. The latest additions were made in 2003 when three new classrooms were built and substantial alterations made to existing rooms.

Today we have ten well equipped classrooms, a practical room for “messy” art work and drama and music activities, a well stocked library and a fabulous computer suite for class ICT (Information Communication Technology) lessons. Our computer facilities are enhanced with a good supply of class based machines that are networked throughout the school.

Our site is completely enclosed and the children are encouraged to make choices about the sort of play they want to be involved in throughout the day. There is a quiet area for more sedate play, an area for more active ball games, a trim trail and a grassed area to play with less boisterous toys.

Please note we operate a strict non-smoking policy on all areas of our site.

Broadstone First School is organised into two parallel year groups, with 30 in each class, as follows:

Children transfer to local Middle Schools at the end of Year 4.
