Wow we cannot believe how quick this half term is going. We have been working so hard in Daffodils and Dahlia’s. Mrs Stone has set us an exciting challenge to become BFS’s very own weather forecasters. We haven’t got long so we are having to become experts quite quickly. We have made our very own rain gauges which have we placed around the school grounds and each day we are going out to record the rainfall in Broadstone. Watch this space for live updates of the weather as we hope to give you as accurate forecasts as possible.
Focus for English:
Over the next few weeks we will be looking at written weather forecasts, deciding on features, purpose and who they are aimed at. From this we will be creating our own weather forecast scripts, ready to record. We will be drawing on all objectives we have learnt so far in year 2.
*using expanded noun phrases (fierce, cold winds)
*Conjunctions (and, but, if, when)
*Range of sentence types (commands, questions, explanation and statements)
*Correct punctuation- capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks.
We will be focussing on adding suffixes for our spellings and making sure we are spelling words correctly using year 1 and year 2 suffixes. (adding –es, -ed, -ing, -er, -est, -y, -ment, -ness, -ful, -less, -ly)
Root word + suffix
Focus for maths:
Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on drawing on all the objectives we have looked at in year 2. We will be applying all our year 1 and 2 Maths in solve it type activities. We will also be looking at telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
We will be continuing to practice counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s. As well as our 2x,3x,5x,10x tables.
Focus for character development:
We have been focusing on the characteristic of curiosity. As we think about the weather, questions fly around the classroom as we try and figure out any trends or patterns or how the weather can change so quickly. The children will use this curiosity to continue to research and find out more.
How you can help at home this fortnight:
English: Discuss the weather with your child. Using the following website look at the next day weather and discuss. Can they write a short weather forecast? http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/
