IN THE COMING WEEKS
We have had a fantastic half term immersing ourselves in traditional tales. The children have enjoyed retelling well known stories in a variety of ways including role play and writing. They have all worked hard to innovate the story of the Three Little Pigs and created their own books! We are very proud of the children! Their books will be displayed in Broadstone Library - please do pop in to the library so your budding young authors can see their hard work on display and share it with you.
After half term, we will be beginning a new topic, ‘Helpful Heroes’. In this topic, we will be finding out about people who play a vital role in our community. We look forward to visits from the Police, fire service and paramedics. Keep a look out for the ‘Helpful Heroes’ MTP which will be sent to you very soon!
Focus for Literacy: Reading and creating simple sentences. We will be using our red and green words to construct simple sentences and have a go at writing these, introducing capital letters to begin the sentence, and full stop to end it.
Maths: Counting to 20 and recognising ‘teen’ numbers, sorting objects into groups of 2s, 5s and 10s (the beginnings of times tables!), one more or less than a given number up to 20, addition and subtraction using small numbers up to 10.
HOW YOU CAN HELP AT HOME: Talk to your child about people who help us within our community. Can they spot a police car, fire engine or an ambulance? Why are they so important? Who else helps in our community? Discuss people such as the lollypop lady, the local vet and the postman/woman and how they play a relevant part in our local community. Pop any comments your child makes on a Wowberry for our bush! Please keep reading your child’s school reading book and make a note of when you do in the reading record – otherwise your child’s book will not be changed. Look at the new red words we will be learning and practise reading them at home.
A polite reminder that only water is allowed in your child’s school water bottle, we are encouraging your children to make healthy choices - juice is allowed in their lunchboxes if they have a packed lunch.
Thank you for all your continued support as always!
