Dear Families

Wow, have our learners surprised us in the past two weeks! We have been drafting the story of how Ganesh got his elephant head. Thank you for all your support at home, the home learning tasks we have received have been amazing! We look forward to performing our Indian dance in assembly to the school next week.

In the coming weeks… Our focus for English: We will be editing and improving our amazing stories that we have written. We will be checking that all the necessary punctuation is in place and that we are using all the correct spellings. We will be looking closely at using subordinate clauses to improve our writing. We will also be set a new writing challenge to test our writing skills. All will be revealed soon.

Our focus for Maths: We are working on addition and subtraction, including hundreds, mentally. The children will be developing their use of a variety of different strategies that will help them. We will be using inverse operations to check answers and estimating. Also, we will be practicing column addition and subtraction to aid us with calculating 3 digit number addition and subtraction.

Our focus for character development: Pride. We would like all our learners to take pride in everything they do in their learning and with the behaviour around the school. We want our learners to be proud of themselves for making the right choices and trying their best.

How you can help at home this fortnight: We are continuing to focus on joined up handwriting in Year 3. We want the learners to be able to present their work beautifully with ease. Below is a copy of our handwriting format so that you can practice these at home.

In maths we would like our learners to be able to identify 10 more or less and 100 more or less quickly to any 3 digit number. So you could work on this with your learners by asking them quick fire questions such as;

What is 10 more than 37

What is 10 less than 132

What is 100 more than 463

In year three spellings are really important. All learners will now have spellings that are individually picked from words they have spelt incorrectly in their learning journals. The children will write these words directly into their spelling books. Please spend some time encouraging your learners to spell these words and write them into sentences.

Anything else happening this fortnight: Our PE will be taking place on a Monday and a Wednesday so please ensure that your learners kits are in school.

Thank you, if you have any worries/questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
