Focus for learning:
Our focus for the next two weeks is 100% Christmas! We have had a special delivery today of Christmas trees, decorations, fairy lights and pretend snow. The children have been amazing at helping us decorate the classroom. We have also got a Santa's Grotto set up and an Elf Workshop where they have been very busy making toys to help Santa out.
We have also had some visits from our Learning Superheroes - they are special characters who help us learn about learning (metacognition) and they have been setting us challenges!
Focus for Literacy:
We have been very busy writing our letters to Santa, using our sounds to sound out words, as well as writing Christmas cards to our friends and labels for our presents. We have been sharing the Nativity story in preparation for our performance in a couple of weeks.
Focus for Mathematical Development:
We have been continuing to look at shapes and patterns in our environments and using this knowledge to help us with our building and construction activities. We have noticed the change in months from November to December and how the dates go back to the beginning as well as counting down the amount of sleeps to go until Christmas Day!
Focus for Character Development:
With the developments we have been making in our classrooms, we have been encouraging the children to take pride in and take responsibility for their learning environment. Tidying up has been a big focus this week and Mrs Stone and Mrs Wright have been very impressed with how the children are learning that everything has a place where it should live when we're not playing with it. With the Christmas Fayre this evening, it has been our job to tidy up our Busy Bees area so it can be used by the PTA!
How you can help at home:
If your child has been given lines to learn for the Nativity, they will need to learn them off by heart so we would be really grateful if you could practise them at home. We would love to have your children's costumes in school by Thursday 8th December so we can take photos to send to the Bournemouth Echo. The songs we are learning are Little Donkey, Away in a Manger, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and We Wish You a Merry Christmas if you would like to practise these as well!
Keep sharing your child's reading book with them and any other books and stories you have at home. Please remember the school books are a useful tool for us to assess their reading ability but they are not the be all and end all of reading and we are developing a love of books in your children, as well as their reading skills.
Anything else happening this fortnight:
We have the whole school carol concert on Monday 12th December at St John's Church at 6pm. This is a ticketed event due to limited seating but there are still tickets available. Our Nativity will take place at 1.30pm the following day, Tuesday 13th December and we would love some helpers to get the children dressed and to walk us over. We also have Party Day, Late Night Shopping Night and other exciting festive events going on over the next two weeks.
