Dear Families

We have had a great first two weeks and your young learners are settling in to year three beautifully. We have been Learning all about Hinduism and enjoyed our visit from our expert Mr Baines! He told us some fascinating Hindu stories and taught us how to use traditional Indian instruments. We are now looking forward to, and rehearsing for our assembly to allow others in the school to learn about the Hindu faith.

In the coming weeks…
Our focus for English: We will be story writing the story of Ganesh, a fascinating, Hindu traditional story. We are going to try to make our stories more exciting for our reading through using extended noun phrases (The silky, soft, tablecloth) and a range of different sentence forms.

Our focus for Maths:
We are working on place value with numbers from 0-1000 in the coming weeks. We are learning about the true value of each digit within a number, for example 457 has 4 hundreds, 5 tens/ Tys and 7 ones. With this knowledge we will be ordering numbers from highest to lowest and writing numbers in word and numerals. We will continue to work on counting in 2’s, 5’s 10’s and 3’s. We will be completing a times tables quiz every Friday.

Our focus for character development:
Pride. We would like all our learners to take pride in everything they do in their learning and with the behaviour around the school. We want our learners to be proud of themselves for making the right choices and trying their best.

How you can help at home this fortnight: We currently are focusing on joined up handwriting in Year 3. We want the learners to be able to present their work beautifully with ease. Below is a copy of our handwriting format so that you can practice these at home.

 In maths there are some really useful games available online to support learners with place value, here are a few that we recommend;

Anything else happening this fortnight:
We look forward to meeting you at our meet the teacher evening next week! Our PE will be taking place on a Monday and a Wednesday so please ensure that your learners kits are in school.

Thank you, if you have any worries/questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
