We have been busy settling back into school after our Christmas break and the children have been working so hard! They have thrown themselves into their new topic 'The Ballad of Mulan' and their hard work is certainly paying off.

Focus for English:  Our SPAG focus is expanded noun phrases. We have been looking closely at how we can broaden our descriptive language and use this within our poems. We have been focusing on poetry writing and the different styles in which poetry has been written. This has been challenging yet exciting for the children and they have really impressed our Year 4 team.

OUTCOME:  Year 4 parents will be invited to a poetry celebration evening on Wednesday 7th February at 6pm where the children will share their poems and accompanying artwork through performance and display.

HOW YOU CAN HELP AT HOME:  Find a poem that interests them about a hero or heroine. Prepare a creative presentation to introduce the class to this text (read, write, use ICT, illustrate).

Maths:  In Maths, our focus has been on fractions. As we all know fractions are all around us and we would like it if you could incorporate these at home, e.g How many of their chest of drawers in fractions hold their pj’s or when making their lunches ask them to cut their own sandwiches into quarters. Any way you can get your children to visualise fractions the better!

Thank you for all your continued support as always!
