IN THE COMING WEEKS
Since coming back from Christmas, we have been very busy being immersed into a world of traditional tales. So far we have told the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, designed gingerbread houses in Hansel and Gretel and this week, we have started creating our own books for Broadstone Library.
Focus for Literacy: Retelling and making a story map of the Three Little Pigs, acting out the story and thinking about what the characters are saying. Writing simple sentences to create our own books, e.g. “The first pig got straw”. Next Thursday 1st February 1pm-2.15pm, we will be visiting Broadstone Library for a story telling session – if you are DBS checked and can help, please contact the office.
Maths: Counting to 20 – recognising the number, not just reciting the rhyme, ordering numbers 0-20, sorting objects into groups of 2s, 5s and 10s (the beginnings of times tables!).
HOW YOU CAN HELP AT HOME: Share stories with your children, particularly traditional or cultural fairy tales, thinking about good vs. bad characters and the settings of the stories. Pop any comments your child makes on a Wowberry for our bush! Please keep reading your child’s school reading book and make a note of when you do in the reading record – otherwise your child’s book will not be changed.
A polite reminder that only water is allowed in your child’s school water bottle, we are encouraging your children to make healthy choices - juice is allowed in their lunchboxes if they have a packed lunch.
Thank you for all your continued support as always!
